Bongo Flava star Harmonize has found himself at the center of online ridicule after flaunting a new set of jewelry worth $500K (approximately 64 million Kenyan shillings) on his Instagram story.
The jewelry, which includes a necklace with the initials “KM” representing his record label Konde Music and rings featuring his nickname “Konde Boy,” quickly sparked reactions from Kenyan social media users, who weren’t impressed with the flashy display.
One user sarcastically commented, “64 million ya Tanzania ni 4k Kenya,” suggesting that the value of Harmonize’s jewelry was insignificant when compared to Kenyan standards. Another user humorously wrote, “Bro thinks he’s Quavo,” poking fun at the artist’s attempt to emulate Western hip-hop stars.
Other remarks included, “Tanzania ukiwa na 1M followers ukikuja Kenya ni 30k followers ama,” implying that Harmonize’s follower count would not hold the same weight in Kenya. One more user dismissed the jewelry, saying, “Ubaya ni za Tanzania huku Kenya hii ni ile bolingo ya 65 bob,” comparing the pieces to cheap jewelry available locally.
A few took a more direct approach, with one user stating, “Back in my prime chain kama hizi nilikuwa scrap,” suggesting that the chains were not up to par.
Another commented, “Mtu anavaa hizo chuma zote kwa shingo za nini surely,” questioning the need for such excessive jewelry. One follower even mocked the pieces, calling them “Aluminum foil.”
Lastly, a more playful response came in the form of, “Atii mnataka kuwa Central Cee,” referring to the British rapper Central Cee, hinting that Harmonize was trying too hard to adopt a Western style.
Despite the backlash, Harmonize continues to enjoy his success and is clearly unbothered by the online reactions.
