Meta Reaches $25 Million Settlement With Donald Trump Over Social Media Ban

Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has come to a mutual understanding with Meta – the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, as a result of a historic legal agreement.

The reported sum of the settlement is said to be Ksh 3,228,750,000 ($25 million or 20 million pounds), which puts an end to the lawsuit the company had filed against Trump’s social media account suspension after the 6th January Capitol riot, which stemmed back to 2021.

Meta suspended Trump’s social media accounts pertaining to the Presidency, and in return Trump had legally blackmailed Meta and Zuckerberg – the head of the company, for accusation on stifling a political figure’s voice.

In his defense, Trump was lifted of the restrictions in July, 2024 – just before the election cycle for the United States kicked in.

As per reports, the 25 million dollars settlement will be allocated for Trump presidential library’s construction, with around 22 million set aside. The rest of the funds will be consumed in legal expenses as well as paying their co-plaintiffs.

In addition to this, it’s worth mentioning that Meta has accepted the settlement with no implications of accepting legal responsibility or any offense committed.

As the elections for 2024 drew nearer, it appears that tensions are starting to heighten. This is following the announcement made by Meta, where they stated that Trump will have a two year suspension period from all of Meta’s services. In January 2021, Trump was banned due to the rise in violence and hatred of people within the country.
